amalgam removal

Services: Amalgam Removal

At Crossroads Dental Wellness, we follow a strict protocol in the removal of Amalgam (Mercury) Filling.

Initial Consultation

The most valuable part of the mercury removal protocol is the "information gathering" session. It allows us to determine the state of your dental health at the time of your first visit to our clinic and to also compile an accurate record of your medical history. If you require further testing to complete your assessment, it can be scheduled at this time.

Treatment Plan Consultation

Obtaining a thorough dental and medical history allows the dentist to prepare a successful treatment plan for your personal situation. During the Treatment Plan Consultation, the dentist will help you understand the problems you are having and what treatment options are available. You are provided with all the information you need to make an informed choice. The dentist will work with you on a plan that includes a dental treatment plan with nutritional and botanical support. The result is a Treatment Plan that is based on your personal needs and situation.

Dental Treatment

Mercury Removal: It is not advisable to have mercury fillings drilled out without the necessary precautions. A dentist needs to be properly trained in mercury removal procedures. At Crossroads Dental Wellness, we follow the guidelines established by the International Academy of Oral Medicine and Toxicology. When these protocols are followed the amount of mercury released during amalgam removal is greatly reduced.

  1. A rubber dam is placed around the tooth to isolate it from the body.
  2. An alternate source of air is provided to the patient with a nasal hood.
  3. All removal is done under cold water spray with copious amounts of water.
  4. A high volume evacuation with isolate attachment is used to evacuate mercury vapour released from the mouth of the patient.
  5. Amalgams fillings are removed in as large a piece as possible.
